Hi guys, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
I’m good thanks J
Can you talk to us more about your track “HDMI Love You”?
It started as an improvisation based on a pattern that I had in the Novation Circuit, Henry worked his magic on top and that is what you hear. J
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
No, most of our tunes are start their life with whatever gadgets we have just acquired, mainly some sort of groovebox, the Roland MC303 and Novation Circuit being the favourites on this album. J
The single comes off your new album Sherwood Pines – what’s the story behind the title?
HDMI Love you is one of Henry’s titles.
We have a list of song titles that we have collected over the years, mainly words or phrases we have misheard in conversation, if we need anything we can delve into the list. J
How was the recording and writing process?
The recording was very enjoyable, and painless, as was the writing, we didn’t rush anything they just followed their natural course. J
How have Tangerine Dream influence your writing?
I like the Dream, but I wouldn’t say they have a direct influence on the Fang, maybe subconsciously. J
What role does Nottingham play in your music?
A big role I would say. We both work together in a daytime job here, so that dictates when we have time to record and perform, usually straight to the studio after work. Dave Stanley, who recorded the album and Esme who did the artwork, are all based in Nottingham. We have all we need here. J
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
We are a lyric free zone, so that’s some brain power saved.
As for the instrumentation, we both have a love of nature, which definitely has a big influence and hopefully gives the tunes a meditative feel. J
What else is happening next in Brown Fang’s world?
Just mixing the next album, which I hope will be a double one, and I suppose we should get out and do some shows. J
