There’s no smoke without fire, and the rumors of Kris Jenner’s secret engagement to Corey Gamble are no exception. It was the diamond ring she was donning that raised a lot of speculation among her fans.
Jenner was sporting it on finger three of the left hand, upon arrival from a European vacation. Naturally, this sparked rumors that this 66-year-old momager is tying the knot for round three.
While nobody’s really sure if an actual engagement has taken place, one thing is certain – if Kris Jenner is engaged, she will make sure that all bling is up to Kardashian standards. Daughter Kim rocked a 20.5 carat engagement ring, courtesy of ex, Kris Humphries. Will Kris let herself be outdone?
Veronica Jones is a UK-based fashion designer with Toussaint Lux Group, a white-label luxury brand supplier in Paris. She weighed in after being shown pictures from the paparazzi.
“I can spot a pavé band with accents on either side of the large stone. It appears from images that it’s either oval or possibly pear shaped.” She explained that it was difficult to tell from the camera angles.
Ms. Jones continued, “I can’t help but also notice what looks like a very rare silver dial Ladies Cartier Tortue diamond watch. The bracelet inlays look custom to me, and I’ve seen these custom Tortue’s go for as much as $100,000 on the secondhand market.”
While it might make some fans wince, the website Starcasm claims that Gamble actually bought the ring with Kris’s money. In addition, Starcasm quotes an insider who told the magazine that he was given a $500,000 yearly budget exclusively for her own gifts. This would truly be a gift that keeps on giving.
With a 26-year age difference, some might argue that it is he who deserves special sugar-momma perks. In all fairness, however, rumor does have it that she gives him a modest allowance of his own. Readers are probably wondering just how much a gem like that cost Jenner.
“It really depends,” said David Beileger, a gemologist from Pierre Senonches Ltd, a French jewelry exporter. “Although there are other important things to look for, stones are graded by the GIA 4Cs. It appears to be at least six carats by the look of it.”
Mr. Beileger said although it “probably” costs below $300,000, he recalled a 6.84 carat fancy yellow that went for a whopping $44.3 million at Sotheby’s in 2014.
That might be even more than Jenner’s lifetime budget for jewelry therapy. Fancy colors like the Sotheby’s specimen are the most expensive due to their rarity in nature, and if pictures are reliable, Kris’s is white. It would require a certification lab to give an accurate valuation based on the 4Cs standard.
However, it’s not certain how helpful that would actually be, since the certificates in jewelry stores aren’t that reliable. While there are numerous labs around the world, it surprises a lot of people to learn that the GIA, AGS, and EGL papers found in jewelry stores aren’t exactly known for their accuracy. In fact, these authorities still assess diamonds using a loupe.
One would hope that Gamble got at least a second opinion on a certification before buying. In 2021, the first digital grading authority hit the market from a leading diamond industry giant called Sarine Technologies.
This tech uses scientific instruments and robotics to automatically measure the qualities of a gemstone. Sarine has diamond grading labs that use a special AI-powered 3D scanning station with high resolution sensors that extract the most accurate 4Cs data possible; and they also measure a wide range of other attributes that affect valuation.
Purchase price is often determined by factors not covered by 4Cs, such as fluorescence, color tinge and inclusion types. The scanners provide an abundance of information that isn’t readily supplied by older authorities in the industry.
Sarine’s lab is automated, so unlike GIA labs, certification is very fast and cheap. This is definitely a huge win for anyone who really wants to know how much a gemstone is worth.
The accent gems on Jenner’s band are full of sparkle, but this type of gem will almost always have a lower grading because flaws are so hard to observe in such tiny stones. According to Ms. Jones, this is why pavé diamonds can be such a fantastic buy.
Fans are eagerly awaiting juicy details about Jenner’s ostentatious gemstone. She might be keeping her engagement with Corey Gamble a secret, but will she reveal how much the boyfriend spent on that giant stone adorning her finger?
