Hi Emma, welcome to VENTS! How have you been?
Hi there! Thank you so much for having me. I have been so busy preparing for my upcoming debut album release “Just For The Record”!
Can you talk to us more about your upcoming single and album “Just For The Record”?
My upcoming single Just For The Record is an upbeat, fierce, feel-good anthem! I love this song because even though it is about a break up, it just makes you feel so good and empowered! The album “Just For The Record” is a collection of songs I have written over the past couple years. I feel like this album emcompasses a huge part of my life!
Did any event in particular inspire you to write this song?
“Just for the Record” is the only song on the album that I didn’t write. It was written by David Thomson, Melanie Dyer, and Joseph Patton. This song resonated with me because of how fun, catchy, and upbeat it is!
Any plans to release a video for the track?
Yes, there is a music video in the works!
Why naming the album after this song in particular?
As soon as I recorded this song I just knew that it fit as the album title. “Just For The Record” is a common phrase and can be used when people are going to tell you their thoughts. I feel like this album is me sharing some of my thoughts with everyone! It is really special to open yourself up to that!
How was the recording and writing process?
The recording and writing process for this album was different for each song. Most of it was recorded during the pandemic making the process a little bit different than usual. There were a lot of zoom/facetime meets with the producer and different writers. I tried to draw inspiration from where I grew up and the stories of my hometown!
What role does Canada play in your music?
Canada plays a huge role in my music! I grew up in the tiny village of Winnipegosis where we have a population of approximately 600 people and no cell service (until just a few years ago). Country music truly defines my life and how I grew up. Canada is also full of some amazing artists/musicians/producers. I feel so fortunate to be able to have a music career in such an amazing country where everyone is so welcoming and kind!
Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
I draw a lot of my inspiration from my hometown and growing up in the country! I find that those stories are very relatable to others.
What else is happening next in Emma Peterson’s world?
This year went from 0 to 100 very quickly! I am releasing my debut album on May 20th! Then I am going on a tour in Manitoba at the end of May. My summer is quickly filling up with shows! I am so excited to be able to share my new music for everyone in person this year!
