Ricardo de Burgos Benguetja was chosen as the referee for the second El Clasico of the current season of La Liga, which will be held next Sunday at the Nou Camp Stadium.
The teams of Barcelona and Real Madrid have met in three different tournaments this season, including La Liga, the FA Cup and the Spanish Super League, and their next match is in the second round of the league games.
In the three El Clasicos played this season, Real Madrid won the first game, which was in the first half of the league, 3-1 at home, but lost the next two games, which were in the Super Cup and the Copa del Rey.
De Burgos, 36, will officiate the fourth El Clasico of the season, with Cesar Sotogrado accompanying him as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
This is De Burgos’ third experience officiating El Clasicos, although he has never officiated against the two giants of Spanish football in La Liga before. In the two previous El Clasicos that he refereed, both of which took place in the finals of the Spanish Super Cup, the contribution of each of the two teams, Real Madrid and Barcelona, has been a victory. In the first case, in the first leg of the Super Cup in 2017, Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 3-1 at Camp Nou, and in the second leg they won 2-0 and won the title (Cristiano Ronaldo received a red card from Deburgos in the first leg).
In the second case, which was on January 15 of this year, Barcelona defeated Madrid 3-1 in the city of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and became the champion.
