A mere five months after its season four premiere Netflix has unleashed on the world the very first trailer for the fifth season of the smash hit Cobra Kai. Get in fighting stance all of you Karate Kid fans; this new season looks to be a real doozy!
Unveiled to a surprised audience this past Thursday at the Netflix Is a Joke Festival in Los Angeles as part of its Cobra Kai: Live & Bad Ass spectacular, the new clips of the further adventures of Johnny Lawrence, Daniel LaRusso, Robby Keene, Miguel Diaz, Chozen Toguchi, John Kreese and Terry Silver have sparked a clamor for more karate goodness, something which Netflix is prepared to deliver on when Cobra Kai makes its return this September 9, according to our Elisabeth Shue fans over at The Hollywood Reporter.
So let’s break down just what we saw in this new trailer – There’s a lot to dig into: Commencing immediately after the conclusion of season four, the clips for the upcoming new season of Cobra Kai reveal that Cobra Kai baddie John Kreese (Martin Kove) is indeed in the Big House (i.e. jail) with his former partner and military pal Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) now poised to consolidate his power over all things Cobra Kai-related.
Not one to take these sorts of things without a fight, Daniel LaRusso (a seemingly never-aging Ralph Macchio) fulfills the promise of last season’s cliffhanger, teaming up with former Karate Kid II nemesis Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto) to bring Silver to the wood shed for his just desserts. There’s even more drama along the way, naturally: Johnny (William Zabka) and his wayward son Robby (Tanner Buchanan) find some time for a little father-son bonding as they go to Mexico in search of the missing Miguel (Xolo Mariduena) who is apparently out and about looking for his long-missing father.
Cobra Kai, for anyone who may have been in deep hibernation over the last half-a-decade, is a continuation of the film franchise The Karate Kid which spotlights original stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka as they navigate middle-aged life with their own kids. Nearly forty years after the original Karate Kid, can the art and Zen of karate still carry the day for these two former enemies?
We’re looking forward to the September 9 premiere of Cobra Kai season five and hope you are, too. Check out the new trailer for the upcoming season and always remember to find your balance in life!
