Emerson Vernon, formerly known as wolfi, dropped a new single, “Fallen”, that delves into unconditional and true love.
Alt-rock pushed to its limits yet mixed with the roots and origins of many genres, written words, history, and styles. With full and soaring vocals this song is a roller coaster of delivery, but it has so much more than that. The intensity of the moments is high, and they are thrust towards you with little warning. Starting with a pseudo live track intro, its “entrance” is somber and sad. Then the music bursts full and hard, switching the screen in my mind to a comic book hero falling from the sky with bright flashing colors and our “character” ready for an emotional battle, except it’s mostly with themselves! All the while the track keeps your senses on watch with its high speed, full, and intense transitions.
With a sensation of an emotional outburst, we hear the eruption of lyrics, and as if Emerson Vernon is insisting, we actively listen intently so we understand the sensations he is feeling firsthand. The songwriting of this track was constructed by combining the writer’s feelings with an array of powerful words from the past lives of prominent people.
What comes next makes me feel like it’s Act II of a Broadway show because it’s rise-up again, but not just a repeat, more of an “emphasis” of the need for musical transition. Just like in an orchestra or opera performance because his indecisiveness is now even more prominent.
The mid-song rap reminds me that genres are like feelings, they are unique to each situation. I can’t tell you any other way, but I’ve “Fallen” for “Fallen”, because it’s a short-form movie song, with chapters all in under 3 minutes, frankly I wish it was longer.
Since the writer of this song, Vernon, used history and the past to convey the message, my quote to follow this is, “Creativity is intelligence having fun”, and is credited to Albert Einstein. Even though the song is dark, it created happiness for me being that the level of creativity is amazing, so it’s a win for this track!
This heavily emotive track captures the selfless sacrifices we make when we’re in love, infused with a fierce passion that Vernon describes as “the common denominator between love and anger.”
This is a new era of music for Emerson Vernon, and he says, “I really just wanted to establish a narrative with the upcoming music I’ll be releasing. My only hope is that my old following is still rocking with me regardless of style and name change. I want people to ask questions that can only be answered by the next song as well as the one preceding it”.
With an upcoming music video for “Fallen,” which he co-directed as well as plans for a collection of singles, there’s a lot more to look forward to Emerson Vernon for both old fans and new.
