Life is full of amusing stories. Or, maybe it itself is an amusing story? Let’s leave that question to philosophers, and meanwhile, let’s unveil an exciting part of the founder of InsMark, Robert Ritter, who happened to have had a ‘rockstar gene’ in his college days.
Robert comes from a small suburb of Scranton, Dalton, PA. He went to a prep school, The Lawrenceville School, in New Jersey. He then attended Williams College in northeast Massachusetts, where he graduated with a B.A in Psychology, and that is where he rocked before entering the Insurance market.
He was a part of the band named Spring Street Stompers at Williams and played the lead cornet. The band was so great that it became the first college band to play at Carnegie Hall. Not only this, but this Dixieland jazz group also won the Arthur Godfrey Talent Scout Show on CBS, which was the most popular show across the nation at the time.
The Spring Street Stompers were invited twice on the Tonight Show on NBC and frequently filled top jazz clubs in Boston and New York with their tunes. The band got so famous that when Princess Grace’s wedding ceremony was held in Monaco, it was invited to play at the occasion.
Robert fully experienced the fantastic world of music being part of the band. Right after college, his passion inclined toward the insurance business. Not that love of music faded from his heart; it could never. However, he got so absorbed in the industry that he rarely had time for other activities. He was a champion at whatever he did. It didn’t take him long to register his success at the very earliest in his career in insurance when he joined MassMutual Insurance Company after college.
Into his second full year, he started leading the Agency in production. Just two years later, he became the youngest person ever to become a General Agent when MassMutual promoted him to the position. He was posted in Oakland, CA. After four years, he was reassigned as General Agent for a prestigious New York City Agency. In just four more years, he twice won the company’s National Manpower Award for developing sales leaders.
Later on, he founded InsMark in 1983, which grabbed unprecedented success for a FinTech company.
Robert is currently one of the renowned figures in the finance world. He has spoken at prominent industry events, a long list which entails Million Dollar Roundtable (MDRT), Top of the Table, and the International Forum. He was also a board member of the MDRT Charitable Foundation and the MDRT split-dollar subcommittee.
Robert has lived a remarkable life. After college, he might have left the band, but that ‘rockstar gene’ never left him. He was, is, and shall remain a rockstar.
