Hi, nicky ros! How are you?
Amazing, life has been full of incredible blessings this year and I’m grateful we are turning the corner from all the craziness of the last two years.
Where are you from?
I’m from the Bay Area, but I’ve been living in Los Angeles for half my life.
What is your greatest inspiration for your music?
I’m an introvert at heart, though I’ve gotten pretty good at being a social butterfly. When I’m out, it’s natural for me to observe people and their behavior. I always try to keep things fresh and push myself creatively to find clever ways of mixing in new cultural references to my lyrics, melodies, and production.
What are 3 words that describe your music?
Vibey. Romantic. Clever.
What is the hardest subject you’ve ever written about?
My 2018 EP “Aubrey Cole” was some of my deepest musical self-exploration. I touched on my childhood and my parent’s divorce, my trust issues and other insecurities, and the darkness in the ambition I experienced in LA. It was my most vulnerable piece of work but it’s become a fan favorite.
What are the challenges of being an artist?
Believing in yourself when no one else does. At times, you question if you’re actually talented or just crazy. It’s a journey full of lessons and drives a lot of people down the wrong path, but it’s incredibly rewarding when you discover that sound you were meant to create and the fans you were meant to reach.
Are you planning on releasing new music soon?
I can’t wait to share what I’ve been working on this past year. I took a step back to really think about what I wanted the next few projects to sound like and I’ve finally locked in on combining my bilingual inspirations. “Encantador” is an amazing Spanish EP I’m really proud of. Every song showcases a different musical inspiration of mine and definitely transcends the language barrier for my American & Latin fans.
