I have found a weekend movie marathon for you. Here are three movies you can watch in succession on a Saturday or a Sunday for your viewing enjoyment. For these purposes, I have turned my attention to Paramount+.
First, start with The Lost City of Z. James Gray’s film is about a real adventurer who went deep into the jungles of South America looking for a lost city. He did not return. What happened? It remains a mystery. Gray’s film is lush and contemplative, and it has a notable turn from Robert Pattinson as he was working to leave Twilight behind him. He succeeds.
Then, watch Dora and the Lost City of Gold. Yes, it’s based on Dora the Explorer but it’s not for preschoolers. Dora is a bit older, and the movie seems more pointed toward teens that grew up on Dora. It’s an interesting take on the character, and also it takes a super-simple show and turns it into an action comedy.
Finally, end with The Lost City, the new action comedy starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum. Now, I will note I have not seen Dora or The Lost City. I based this entirely on the fact I realized there were three “Lost City” movies on Paramount+. I guarantee the Dora movie and Lost City of Z have gotten views recently because of people wanting to watch The Lost City on the streaming service. This is as clear a thematic pairing as I have done yet. I am just amused at the idea of watching three “Lost City” films, and also how strikingly different these three movies are. Why wouldn’t you want to make this happen? Hey, maybe the two movies I haven’t seen are good! I do plan to see The Lost City eventually! Maybe I will watch this trio myself this weekend.
