Alejandro Papo Gomez, the World Cup winner with Argentina, justified his recent positive doping test by accidentally drinking a spoonful of his son’s cough syrup.
Gomez (35 years old) was found to have taken a banned substance (terbutaline) in a test taken from him in October 2022 and was banned for two years by the Spanish Anti-Doping Commission.
“I have never resorted to a prohibited act and I never will,” Gomez said in a statement posted on Instagram, stressing his firm rejection of any type of doping.
Gomez had a doping test before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He managed to win the World Cup together with Albi Celeste.
